Good morning everyone! Well, the weather has finally broke and it looks like the wind has subsided for the weekend. Conditions look perfect to take advantage of a great Tautog bite going on in Buzzards Bay. From Cleavland Ledge to Wings Neck and any rock pile in between, the depths of Buzzards Bay are teaming with keeper size Blackfish. With a 16″ minimum, its very easy to get some table fair into the boat. Green crabs are the bait of choice either on a heavy jig or a 3/0 to 4/0 octopus hook rigged dropper style. Remember these fish have a very light bite so be ready to set that hook right away. If you can find some hermit crabs they can sometimes work even better for those very finicky fish.

Stop on into the shop for fresh green crabs on your way out. Don’t forget water temperatures are very cold now so be safe on the water.

Good luck from all of us here at Bad Fish Outfitters!

Dear Anglers,

The fishing on the cape continues to be excellent. The boys have been fishing upper Buzzards Bay like madmen and have been catching consistent fish. The birds have been all over the place with stripers and blues on top. We have noticed however that the stripers have begun to hang out deeper with the snapper blues staying on top. Try using your wire line setups to get those deeper bass.

The Mackerel fishing in Cape Cod Bay has been good as well. We went out and filled 2 coolers of mack in just 2 hours. The stripers in the canal and CC Bay have been devouring these snack size baits. Try using plugs like pencil poppers or needlefish to mimic their action.

This weekend is opening weekend for recreational Black Seabass and Fluke. Dont forget to gear up for these delicious critters. When targeting Black Seabass look for structure like rocks, trenches or holes. These fish will wait and ambush their prey. Use a rig with 3 to 4 ounces of weight and tip your hooks with squid. The fluke need to be a minimum of 18.5″ to keep so in order to find these doormats you must seek out deeper water. Look for water of 80 feet or more. Use a rig with squid, sand eels or fluke bellies for bait.

Dear Anglers,

The striped bass and bluefish bite is going off! This morning the boys from Bad Fish went out into Buzzards Bay and had an epic trip. We went out at first light and immediately found birds working on huge schools of fish in upper Buzzards Bay. Every other cast was a keeper sized striper! We fished all top water using poppers, Line Stretchers, Gibbs, Ocean Lures and Salt’s Needlefish. The action was fast and furious with all stripers. As the tide changed so did the fish. Towards the end of our trip we found the largest school of Bluefish that any of us had ever seen! Birds in every direction with fish breaking the surface and feeding hungrily on sand eels.

This is some of the best springtime fishing that any of us has ever seen. These fish are so hungry that one 30 pound bass actually had a 19″ striper in her belly!!! This action wont last forever, probly on a few weeks, so get on out there and have a trip of a lifetime.

The best places to find these fish is all around Mashnee Flats. The fish were moving up and down the canal entrance from the Mass Maritime boat all the way to Wings Neck. The old canal was also very productive. The best tide to catch this action is on the last few hours of the incoming tide. Trolling deep diving plugs is working as well.
